HydroScan has double appointment at Belgian embassy in Vietnam
Strong interest in Hanoi for Belgian technologies:

- For sewage management and urban drainage that are better adapted to climate change
Appointment one: closing ceremony with drinking water company Hawacom
In the presence of Flemish minister-president Jan Jambon, there is today the official closing ceremony of the Finexpo project that introduced the leak detection technology LeakRedux® from Leuven-based HydroScan to Vietnamese drinking water company Hawacom.
Hawacom accounts for 80% of the daily supply of tap water in Hanoi. That amounts to about 1 million m3 per day. HydroScan's LeakRedux® compares 'actual consumption' with 'expected consumption' in real time, helping Hawacom detect leaks in its network and significantly reduce its losses of precious water.
The global challenge is to provide clean water to everyone on our planet. (Goal 6 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals). At the same time, domestic and foreign drinking water companies are struggling with problems of leaks in their networks. Billions of litres of drinking water are lost every day.
Het project in Vietnam kwam tot stand mede dankzij Finexpo, een instrument van de Belgische federale overheid om export van Belgische innovatieve goederen te ondersteunen.

Hawacom was HydroScan's first customer in Vietnam. Today, there are ongoing projects at already 2 other Vietnamese drinking water companies, Gia Dinh and HueWaco. "Plus we are in dialogue with other interested drinking water companies in different regions of Vietnam," says Patrick Swartenbroekx, CEO HydroScan.
Appointment two: letter of intent with Hanoi Sewerage and Drainage Company (HSDC)
During the same meeting of Flemish minister-president Jambon at the Belgian embassy (as part of an economic mission of the Flemish government), Leuven-based SME HydroScan and Vietnam's Hanoi Sewage and Drainage Company (HSDC) signed a letter of intent.
De Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is a confirmation that both companies are keen to work out a project to implement HydroScan's RioScan technology for Hanoi's drainage system.
Climate change and increasing urbanisation have their impact on urban drainage systems. With more extreme rainfall events, there is more often insufficient drainage capacity. This is no different in Vietnam's Hanoi, city of 8.6 million people.
Hanoi Drainage One Member Limited Liability Company (HSDC) manages Hanoi's drainage infrastructure and faces challenges to reduce flood impacts and keep the infrastructure in optimal condition. Leuven-based SME HydroScan is an expert in climate-adaptive water management.
HSDC and HydroScan have found each other for an innovative approach to preventive sewer management. This involves smart mapping of the most critical infrastructure in order to expand capacity in the right places, preventively keep sewers in good condition and anticipate future risks. HydroScan's RioScan technology and methodology is the appropriate one here.
